February 15, 2025 Biennial Organizational Meeting

Joe Grass Costilla County GOP Chair

On February 15th, the Costilla County GOP convened for its Biennial Organizational Meeting, attended by thirteen community members and four committee members. The meeting commenced at 1:00 pm with Butch Pettigrew leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a Benediction from Committee Chair Steve Woelfel.

Steve invited nominations for the positions of Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary, but no new nominations were made. He recorded the nominations for Chair as Ken Hershey and Joe Grass, with Becky Hummel nominated for Vice Chair, while the Secretary position remained open. The committee then conducted a straw poll for the Chair candidates, which resulted in a unanimous vote for Joe Grass.

Consequently, the committee officially elected Joe Grass as the new Chair and Becky Hummel as Vice Chair. The new committee discussed scheduling future meetings, deciding to hold them on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm, which suited most attendees. The new committee expressed a desire for volunteers to assist with projects like ballot initiatives, a by-laws committee, and fundraising efforts. Joe Concluded the meeting at 2 pm.

The upcoming committee meeting is scheduled for March 11th at the Centennial School in San Luis, beginning at 5:30 pm.

The Treasurer's Report was read.

Announcements: Bill Andrews gave a report on the Lincoln Dinner that was held on February 8th. Steve Woelfel introduced Victor Hummel who is a candidate for County Sheriff in the 2026 election.
